The Incline vs Speed mistake

So I decided to take advantage of my newish treadmill. Since I got it in January I had just been using it to do straight runs to train for my 5k. Since then I wanted to really challenge myself more and do some interval training. Fortunately the lovely thing has pre-programed intervals.

I had copied the pages of the owner's manual so I could have them handy when the time came to actually start my interval training. Keep in mind that the print isn't very large on these. So I looked over the programs and decided that a walk/run with some inclines would be a good start.

So I got up early yesterday and had just one cup of coffee and plenty of water to keep hydrated. I bounded downstairs to get on "Precious" with my handy dandy interval page so I would know what program to enter.

Well it started out just fine, nice and slow with small amounts of incline. No problem I'm thinking. Then the warm-up phase was over and "Precious" shot up to 6 miles an hour. Not what I was expecting at all and keep in mind that I am only 5' 2" so my short little Flinstone legs were flying!

After I punched the down button and caught my breath I realized that I had mixed up the incline and speed colums. I thought I would be doing a 6% incline at 1.5 miles an hour not the other way around!

Whooo Laaaa!!

Moral of the story is really read what you will be doing and be CERTAIN of it before you hit the start button!!!!

Good thing it was just the dogs that witnessed that emoticon

    LOL! That can be dangerous! Glad you were able to keep up with the speed until you slowed it down! :)

    Ha, ha! That was an interval! That's a 10 minute mile! Wow! Short legs or long...that is FAST! And a very funny story to tell people!

    So cute! Glad you are Okay. We short folks really have to move fast to keep up with our long legged friends! Good luck with your training.
