Things are good...no complaints. Woke up this morning & could breathe (yay!)...didn't take my Allegra, trying to see if I can stop taking it. Went for a long-ish (5.5 mile) walk (with ~10 min of running in the middle) to the ocean & back today. It was kind of lovely and cool and overcast.
I'm still not 100% Whole30 compliant (too many fruits & nuts, too much snacking, not having a protein source at every meal---more power to others doing it if you can follow it to the letter, but that's just not my personality...), but I'm not worrying about it--I feel really good and am hopeful that I can come off of my allergy meds & I'm also having fun experimenting with new foods that I wouldn't have ever tried unless I did this (the same thing happened when I had to go gluten-free...lots of learning & experimenting). The thing about being a creature of habit (that lives & generally eats alone) is that unless I cut a food out for awhile, I don't really bother trying new ones.
So, new foods:
I made sweet potato salmon cakes yesterday...omg they are so good! You don't even taste the sweet potato, they're just spicy salmon cakes. brilliantaqua.wordpress.
I also made a spinach salad with strawberries & pecans...I've done this before, but now I'm experimenting with actually dressing my salads (as soon as I learned to just mix up a vinaigrette myself instead of using "salad dressing" it turns out that I kind of like having something on my salad). For this I used a mix of blood orange infused olive oil & a white balsamic vinegar with some salt & pepper. I just made this again today for lunch--so good.
The talk by Alice Waters last night was so inspiring...I completely agree with her about the slow food vs. fast food mindset & culture. The whole thing just spoke to me. I so want to go up to Berkeley and eat at Chez Panisse now (well, after they finish the repairs following the fire they had in March).
Anyway, food today:
Breakfast: coconut water pre-walk and nuts & goji berries post-walk (I was tired & didn't feel like fixing a real breakfast a few hours before lunch)
Lunch: spinach salad described above
Dinner: planning on roasting veggies & heating up a salmon cake
After dinner: pineapple & blackberries with some coconut milk (probably)
