Kansas City Trolley Run

Sunday, April 28, 2013

Today I ran the Kansas City Trolley Run (4 mile race) with my friend from work. Honestly I didn't think we would run the whole thing because of our lack of training. I spend hours in the gym, but I'm not much of a runner especially outside. I do run on the treadmill a few times a week. When I got to the Plaza and saw all the people it made me realize that I was excited to do this. Even if my time wasn't what I wanted I would be able to say I finished. A year ago I could barely run two minutes without feeling like I was dying.

Today I accomplished something I would never forget. 80lbs gone and I can say I am much healthier and stronger! I can now say I am a runner!

Results- We ran the whole 4 miles! Every time I felt like stopping I saw the mob of people ahead of us and told myself this is the one time I can say I finished and gave it my all. There was people cheering us on and runner of all ages. I saw a older man probably in his 80s running slow, but giving it his all. I saw a dad and son probably 5 or 6 passing us. I saw a mom and son and the mom was encouraging him just to keep running for another block. It was a great experience. Something memorable and I can be proud of.

Time- 40 minutes exactly. We did the first mile in 8 minutes and gradually slowed our page after. Our goal was to finish in under 45 minutes and yesterday I wasn't sure if that was going to happen. All the excitement really got us moving!

This is me and Jo after we finished the race!!

haha Holly! I was surprised at the 8 minute mile too. She is a lot taller than me and I guess I was keeping up with her pace. We both couldn't believe our time. When we practiced last week it took us about 55 minutes. Today the area we ran was mostly flat and some down hill, which helped!
