No 5K

Saturday, April 27, 2013

I am heartbroken, on more than one level!

My sister called last night and said my father has taken a turn for the worse. The Hospice nurse said he had days, not weeks, to live.

Our Mock 5K was probably going to last until noon: There were over 50 awards (ten for each group, plus spirit awards), and the awards weren't going to be given out until every walker/runner crossed the finish line.

I couldn't wait until noon or later to start our 15-hour drive given the news, so we skipped the 5K. emoticon

We were able to get on the road by 6:45 am. By skipping the 5K we should be able to visit my dad tomorrow instead of having to wait until Monday. Every day is precious. Every day is a gift.

Tough choices, TG, but you made the right one -- there will be more 5Ks, this time with your Dad is priceless and irreplaceable. I volunteered with hospice for several years -- the peace that comes to those releasing as their families gather around them is monumental. Best thoughts to you and your family.

The most precious person in your life was worth placing as your first priority. Your love for him is evident. Your dad is lucky to have you as his daughter, a daughter who cares and loves him.

emoticon May your presence comfort your dad. Have a safe journey.

You are putting your priorities in the right place. You won't regret spending time with your Dad and family. I hope you can make some really good memories there along with the bitter-sweet ones. I'm thinking about you and keeping you in my prayers.

So sorry. It's wonderful you are going to see him. You will be able to join another 5k, but no one knows how much more time you'll have with your dad.

Sorry about your dad's situation. Yes, every day is a gift, one that you won't want to lose. Sorry you have to skip the 5K though. There are more important things that you need to do.
