Planning another monster walk...

Saturday, April 27, 2013

Last week's 23.5 mile walk went so well I am planning on repeating it, but making it closer to a full marathon distance. This time I will use the moleskin before I set out, and wear two pairs of socks. I find that if I wear a thin pair next to my skin, then a pair of sport socks over that that I don't get blisters as bad. Last time I forgot to wear two pairs and I paid for it. I arranged things with my parents so Cooper will have a dogsitter. I arranged it for Thursday, so I will have three days to recover before my next scheduled run.

I managed to run four times this week. Unfortunately, I seem to be getting slower each time. Maybe I was just tired by Friday? I plan on running the shorter distance again next week. Hopefully, after a rest day tomorrow I will be back up to speed again.

Lunch with my parents was lovely today as usual. We had baked haddock, brown rice with sauteed veggies, green beans, steamed kale, and cantaloupe for dessert. I didn't take the time to clean the kitchen the way I usually do, but there is always next week. I made up a plate for my brother as well and walked it up to his house (he lives next to my parents), as he is still recovering from hernia surgery and is in quite a bit of discomfort. I remember recovering from the same kind of surgery a couple of years ago, and getting in and out of my recliner hurt worse than anything. So, I feel for him.

I walked Cooper out to my parents' house and then home again. I also walked to run some errands after we got home... so my mileage already means this won't be considered a rest day. (My dad just dropped off a quart of maple syrup from their trees. YUM!) I will try and make tomorrow a rest day though.

Sounds like some good planning for your next major walk. Hopefully you'll avoid the massive blisters this time.

Your dinner sounded lovely. We actually had both of our kids at dinner tonight. Since they are 18 and 22, that doesn't happen often. It was a real treat having us all together. We had grilled hamburgers, fresh green beans, and watermelon. It did taste good. Gets me in the mood for more summer grilling.

Hopefully you get your rest day in tomorrow.

You should invest in some good quality running socks. I got 2 pairs of pro compression for $15 with free shipping on their "sock of the month" special. They are made for runners and marathoners and no blisters! Check out their website... you need to take care of your feet!

You get a lot done in a day!

I will watch for your blog about your long walk. Good info about the 2 pairs of socks.

I'd be looking for another experienced runner to mentor me. If I lived near you, that would probably be you.

It is hard at times to take that rest day because you just feel so darn good. Good luck
