The Fear of Confrontation

Saturday, April 27, 2013

Tell me about your experiences with confrontation.

I don't run toward a fight, but I will confront a person or situation when correction or clarification are needed, and I am very confused by people who will let others run over them just to keep the peace.

So tell me what you think.

I don't necessarily invite confrontation, but it doesn't bother me, either.

I see one type of folks who will avoid it all costs, because the perceived opinion of others matters more to them than their opinion of themselves, and they are terrified of the judgement that generally comes along with confrontation. These are the ones who I really don't understand, because they devalue themselves more than anyone else possibly could. They apparently feel that they, and their opinion, don't mean anything and shouldn't be heard. emoticon

I see other folks who can't be bothered to get in to a confrontation, because it really isn't important enough for them to "disturb the peace". They're happy with their world the way they see it, and are quite content to let others see the world differently. emoticon

I'm closest to the second type, but I consider debate to be a fun hobby, which some will perceive as being confrontational.

Meh, live and let live... emoticon

There are a few people I wouldn't mind "getting real" with, as Dr. Phil would say......not a great amount, but enough that sometimes it makes me think why I bother with the human race at all.....
