Tech Bliss!

Saturday, April 27, 2013

At home: a new laptop. So much faster, so much more reliable.

And: I've finally replaced my old flip cell phone (kept turned off, for emergency out-calls only) with an iPhone5. Truly amazing. A camera! My work emails! My work calendar! Texting: my DS actually responds to texts (especially when accompanied by a picture of beloved Charlie . . . .). And apps!! I've got birdjam right on my iPhone. (This one was costly and complicated and actually pooched my old laptop.) But worth it. I've got the Audobon wildflower app which is amazing (and free). And jazz. And classical music. And . . . having lots of fun with this.

Haven't put on the SparkPeople app (which I had always thought was free -- appears to be $1.99 which is of course very reasonable but it seems to be kinda awkward to work with and the reviews aren't great . . . your thoughts??

Tech bliss. What took me so long?

I sprung for a new laptop last year (Lenovo, 8 GB RAM, 1 TB HD & Win 7), plus my son passed along his iPhone 4S last Nov. It's all good, you bet! :-)

SP app? I passed...rather do it on my laptop.

Oh my gosh! I am rather jealous - I still have an old flip phone, doesn't even text, much less take a picture! Have fun! As far as the app, I find I don't use it as much as I do the webpage on my laptop.

None of that here. Don't know how much fun that would be taking your work home with you, but each to his own :P I think my niece and nephew would likely stay in contact if I was into texting, but don't really need all that personally, would never use it otherwise.
    Enjoy!

I kicked and screamed that I didn't want the iphone (I was a devout BlackBerry girl), but the boyfriend gifted it to me for my birthday last September. I say I love my iphone just about everyday. I didn't get the SP app cuz of the poor reviews either, but I do have my SP page open all the time on Safari.
    Congrats on the tech update.

I have the free diet & exercise Spark app on my 'droid. Almost never use it. Instead, I use the internet access on the phone and the real SP website.

So glad you're enjoying - I passed on the app - had it when it was free and didn't think much of it - use my laptop instead of my phone anyway as I want to respond to friends' posts.

There IS a free version of the SparkPeople app... search in your playstore for free apps, it should show up! I've got it, it works a little differently from being online, but I really like being able to use it from the phone.

Have fun with your new tech toys!

Ah smartphones. I'm not there just yet, but do have texting. Great way to keep in touch even it it is just for a short bit.
Sounds like you have found some great apps. I don't know about the SparkPeople app but what can you buy for two dollars these days and you can determine if it meets your needs.

    Enjoy!

I understand about having kids who prefer to answer texts rather than emails or phone calls. Mine still have to suffer as we don't want the expense of smartphones and the data plans they require.

Have fun with your new toys!

Oh, I'm a bit envious. Last summer when we were with our adult kids we were really impressed with the apps and the technology. But being 2 retirees who are almost always at home with or without grandkids (although I do go on runs and to the gym) we didn't think we could justify the expense. Guess that is one advantage to not retiring early - you stay in the loop with technology longer. Good for you! Enjoy!!

Love my iPhone. Agree about the app. It used to be free. I didn't think I paid but maybe I did. I have both sp and the recipe app. I found sp a bit cumbersome but I still use it to find out food values but I usually track on the website instead. I wish they had an app interface for blogging etc to make it easier on a phone or other hand held device.

    Enjoy your upgrades. emoticon

I don't have the Spark app on my phone so I can't help you. Have fun with all of your new tech equipment. I do like the faster response time on my lap top and smart phone!
