I'm Ok

Saturday, April 27, 2013

I have had a very busy time at work, I have been working 7 days a week, 10-12hrs a day for almost a month and a half. I am really glad that I am strong enough now to be able to handle these stressful work situations. A few years ago, this would have sent me straight to hospital.

I started a 30-day juice fast last week, today is day six of the fast. I plan to go for thirty days but I will listen to my body. I really needed this fast and so far so good. No headaches, no food calling my name, no weakness, nothing that would cause me to want to stop.

I know most people on SP are not convinced about this juice fasting thing. When I first heard about it, I wasn't convinced either. So I started doing research about it. I read books and spent time on the internet reading articles on juicing and juice fasting. What I learned made sense to me, so I bought a juicer and did my first 30-day juice fast. That was almost two years ago (maybe one and a half, not exactly sure).

The results were amazing. Did I lose weight? Yes I did, but that was not the most important thing because I was already close to my goal weight at that time. I suddenly realized that I had no more migraines, the pain in my knee went away and the unexplained body aches that I used to have from time to time stopped. These results have stayed with me since then. I have done shorter juice fasts since that time, between 7 days and fourteen days.

I am not trying to "sell" juice fasting to anyone, just sharing some of the things I've done along the way. Even when I am not doing a juice fast, juicing has become an integral part of my life. I juice everyday. My DH and my boys love the fresh vegetable/fruit juices and I have seen big improvements in their overall health as well. Of course they don't do the fasts, they just drink juice every single day.

I know I have not been connecting with my spark friends for a while, but this busy season is almost coming to an end. Thanks for keeping me in your thoughts and prayers.

I knew you were still sparking because I would notice you status updates. Just figured you were busy, and you sure are!!! Even though that sounds like a very rough work schedule, it is so good to hear you are handling it so well. NSV!!!

I really wanted to try juicing, but a good juicer is out of budget. I borrowed a friends' older one and it just left so much pulp that I couldn't bring myself to get over the "waste." I know, if I had a good juicer, I'd probably be on board. lol. I'm thankful that you shared your own experience and report that it is working so well for you.

Don't worry about your sparkfriends, we'll be here when you can get back into commenting more. You come first in your life... take care!

The thing about fasting like that is that it removes many foods that may cause inflammatory, irritant or allergic responses in your body. The trick is to find out which ones.

What's with the 80 hour weeks? I hope for your sake that something shifts soon.

I personally couldn't do a long juice fast (dislike juice!) but can see how it would definately help a person's immune system and ultra hydrate them! All the best to you and your family.

I have a really nice juicer but we don't use it as much as I thought we would. I enjoy fresh juice, its just so expensive to make it, especially with a large family like I have.

I am so happy to hear that you are doing well. You and STEPH are both burning the career candle at both ends at the moment. What is going on in Kenya? Are the annual tax returns due? emoticon
I love fasting- and I used to juice but stopped. Parts of my juicer went missing when we moved. Will invest in a new one soon.
My very naughty brother in law told us that if he makes his own fresh pineapple juice and then drinks it with vodca, (he drinks a lot) he can go cycling the next day without a hangover. emoticon
I think juice fasts makes us younger. You will be 21 again soon.
