So unbelievable! Childhood cancers are very rare, childhood brain tumors are even rarer. These are just not common things. So it is beyond a bizarre coincidence that the three-year old daughter of a friend from church has just been diagnosed with a brain tumor. And, even more bizarrely, her situation is almost exactly the same as Danny's was.

She was diagnosed in the ER, after midnight, by a CT scan of her head. They did emergency surgery immediately to relieve the pressure on her brain and inserted a shunt. The tumor is large, at the back of her brain, in the base of her skull. They are very sure it's cancer. All of these things are the same as Danny's situation. The only real difference is that Rebecca's doctors don't plan to do surgery, but chemo and radiation. Danny did have the surgery and is now having the chemo and radiation.

Ours is not a large parish - and two children in five weeks with the same brain tumor, as rare as it is? This is beyond a strange coincidence.

My heart aches for Rebecca and her family. I was where they are just five weeks ago. I am past the basket case stage, but I remember how horrible it was very well.
I pray that they will get through this as well as we have so far, with so much support from friends and family.

    I know what you mean. For the first 35 years of my life, I knew of a grand total of ONE person who suffered with a brain tumor. Over the past 5 years of my life, there have been 5 (3 children, 2 adults). This is surely not a coincidence. I am convinced that there is something that is being pumped into our food supply that has caused the massive sudden jump. Studies from Yale have also recently linked dental x-rays to brain tumors, so that certainly doesn't help. We know that our food is contaminated with all kinds of chemicals in the form of herbicides, pesticides, antibiotics, bleaches, flavor enhancers, artificial sweeteners, artificial flavors, growth hormones and the like and now to make matters worse, the seeds have been genetically mutated in most of the crop food we eat. Even food labeled "organic" is only required by the FDA to be 80% organic, so if you eat something "organic" it can be 20% chemicals. The only way around it is to grow all your own food, and not many of us can feasibly do that. Anyway, just my thoughts. So sorry to hear about your friend's daughter. emoticon
