It hit me last week that I have six weddings to attend during the summer wedding season. Gasp! I haven't had this many to go to since the year I met my hubby, and those were spread out over 6 months.
Because of the weddings and the impending doom of trying to find one or multiple dresses that I like, I decided to join a weight loss challenge at the Herbalife club in my town. I have been using the products for about a month now. Note*This is not a sales pitch! I have found that their shakes are pretty tasty and they work really well with my schedule right now. Every morning I make two shakes. I have one on my way to work and then put the other in the fridge for lunch. I have high protein snacks such as hard boiled eggs (I don't like the yolks, so they are really low calorie & high protein), greek yogurt, string cheese, or chicken breast and also a fruit or veggie. I have a mid morning and an afternoon snack. Dinner is usually grilled chicken or other lean protein and veggies. Sometimes, when I really want it, I'll add in crackers or something that is whole grain. I do try to avoid grain and potato carbs, as my body doesn't use them very well.
At this point you might be saying, so how is that any better/different from just eating how you were eating last year at this time? That is a really good question! The problem is before I started Herbalife products I wasn't picking the healthy meals for breakfast and lunch. I was back to eating "whatever was easy" and tasted good, and not what was healthier for me.
Tonight I made grilled chicken breasts and grilled asparagus, mushrooms and onions. I also made salads. I was full, but I stopped eating before I was stuffed. About 2 hours later I said to hubby, "I kind of want ice cream." He did too. He was hesitant, but was almost going to offer to go get some. Instead, I made us shakes. I blend them with water and ice and make them very much like smoothie or milkshake consistency. It totally hit the spot.
So, now I am getting much better about the nutrition. I am making better choices. I am making things in advance and being prepared. This is a very good thing.
I have had the phlegmy crud for the past week. No good. I am improving, but the amount I hack and cough and have phlegm just being awake does not lend its self to exercising. So I have been off of exercise most of this week. This needs to improve so I can make my goal of losing 10 pounds before the first wedding on June 8th. Bit of a stretch, but possible. The next weeding is at the end of June, then two right away in July on the 5th and 6th, then Two in August.
Today was the first day of spring as far as MN is concerned. It was 70 degrees and beautiful! We got the patio furniture out and set up, I grilled, with the real grill for the first time in 2013, and we sat on our front porch having a beer tonight. It was lovely! I know, most people that live south of Iowa believe that MN is ALWAYS freezing and full of snow, but I assure you, that is not the case. April is supposed to be lovely days of 50s and 60s and rain showers. We are not supposed to get 20" of snow, delivered mostly in 3 storms, spread about a week apart and lasting late into April. This long, drawn out snow has been affecting everyone! My students especially have been having a hard time. The attitudes and whining have been almost unbearable! I'm glad for the sun.
And now, I am going to avoid snacking by working on some knitting. I have a baby blanket I just started for a friend that is due in August. I also have a sister in law due in August, so if I can get two done, that would be amazing! Off to it!
