I noticed several signs of spring as I headed out yesterday for a long drive for business trip to Lakeview Oregon. On the landscaped freeway onramp, 3 marmots were munching on the tender shoots of grass. I only see these critters, which locals call rockchucks, in the spring. (I couldn’t get a photo without causing a major wreck, but here is a link to marmot photos. http://www.google.com/search?q

On my drive to and from Lakeview, I saw lots of pronghorn antelope and a few sandhill cranes raising babies. PLUS I saw a young bald eagle that was just starting to get his/her distinctive white head.
Finally I ran into a traffic jam on Oregon Highway 31 by Summer Lake: 6 cowboys on horseback with dogs were moving a LOT of cows with their calves! Here’s a couple of photos from my car.
