Looking for IBS triggers

Friday, April 26, 2013

I'm starting an elimination diet to find my IBS triggers. I'm tired of the gas and diarrhea. I'm starting with eating rice, oatmeal, lean meat, fish, fruit that isn't citrus or berries, common vegetables, flaxseed and herbal tea. I staying away from beans, soy, gluten containing grains, dairy, eggs, shellfish, most nuts and seeds, and most processed foods. I figure in a week or two I can start adding food back if eating a very simple diet relives my symptoms.

I don't know if this will help. I don't know if I can stay away from all sweeteners and other things that could be an irritant. I think HFCS is an irritant, but I'm not sure. I do feel weird after I eat it. There are many things that could be triggers like rape seed. It's hard enough staying away from wheat (gluten) since I love sandwiches. Then, with staying away from corn (I know that makes me run to the bathroom) and wheat, I can't fry foods with any breading.

My known triggers are chicken, dairy, corn, most nuts and seeds. I know beans give me gas, but they give everyone gas. I have an allergy to chocolate so I know that I shouldn't eat or smell it. I don't want to have to give up beans and wheat, but it might benefit me to do so. Even after a few days without wheat, I can feel a difference.

sounds like a great plan. It can be hard, but you can do this. Keep in mind it's hard now, but you are going to learn so much if you follow through.

sounds like you have a great plan.

there are other types of flour you could try and gluten/wheat free breads if your want to eat a sandwich. The best brand for gluten free stuff is http://udisglutenfree.com/2013/04/1
1/gf-snacks-on-the-go/, there were others but that is the one that I remember. Hey I'm not saying to go eat a bunch of processed gluten free food but some times you just want to eat something and this was the one of the best brand out there.

There are alot of recipe books that I checked out from the library if you like baking.

good luck with your diet.
