Another sparkling spring day much like yesterday. I have to admit, springtime makes me feel alive! It's not that I dislike winter as there is much to do and to enjoy about the season, but it could be that there are increasing amounts of daylight hours in the spring, so I wake up to the light, and can do a lot of things in the natural light after I get home.
Today my husband and I walked around our house and measured out a spot for the deck we have been planning for a while. We also walked through a small woods near the house, and found a trillium growing in there that we had never seen before. I suppose it has quietly bloomed year after year, and may have been observed by birds, bugs, deer, rabbits, skunks, and raccoons, but humans did not find that spot at the time of year it was showing its stuff. That spurred us to look for other trilliums, and we found several.
As wonderful as it is to find and enjoy those fleeting beauties of nature, we also discovered even more invasive blackberries. We devote many hours each year to eradicating them, but there always seem to be more. The best techniques seem to be getting all of the roots out, and we have also discovered they can be largely discouraged by mowing. The only other possibility - of the natural sort that I know of - is to provide shade from big trees. Now that we have done some logging, we will have areas exposed to sunlight, so we will have to be vigilant in those areas. One other possibility is to get a goat, but my husband says no. I don't blame him, since he is at home during the day he usually gets the care and feeding of our animals, so he has limited himself to cats and chickens. Maybe when I retire . . .!
Anyway, nutrition-wise and exercise-wise the day went very well. Spring is good for me that way too!
