4 Days on Paleo & Blood Sugar Normal !!!

Thursday, April 25, 2013

Soooooo......... I was told this diet would help my diabetes (on insulin injection 4 x a day)
and on Monday April 22 I started eating Paleo.
I was feeling SO awful, really really bad all the time, I knew I had to do something.
I remembered my renal dietician said, Try the Caveman diet, then she told me what it was
and I said NO WAY! This was more than 6 months ago. I had given up sugar a year ago, but still was not doing well.
Now with 4 days of strict paleo, my blood sugars are coming up normal.
I have been diabetic for 20 years and on insulin for more than 3 years. And I have alot of weight to lose. Even swimming and exercising 90 min a day last Fall did not help me.
So, on Monday last I thought of the last thing I could think of, Paleo. Could I do it? Would I stick to it? 4 days now, if I can do something for 4 days I can do it much longer. NO it is NOT easy, yes I am getting cravings, I miss certain things.
But I am using this and another group to help me, its going along. If I can normalize my blood sugars and lose weight I would give up eating altogether.
I started making up recipes, and putting them on with the title of Paleo Power, so far I just have a fruit salad and a stir fry, but I am going to build it up, I am planning on putting up a Paleo Soup and a Paleo Chili soon. My husband tried to make me mayo out of an egg and olive oil but it did not work, oh well. Sooooooo......... just wanted to share that this diet might be the near miracle I am looking for (I didn't mention all my medical issues).
Thanks for letting me share.
Aloha~~~~~

As some one who has worked in healthcare for years, I applaud you for taking control and working towards controlling your disease, rather than letting your disease control you. emoticon emoticon emoticon

I've been watching your paleo blogs and I'm so happy to read this one! My BF is diabetic and I've been trying to convince him he needs to eat less carbs. He's so stubborn! I would like to have him read your blogs and maybe he'll be convinced to try it, even if just for a few days.

I have a recipe for homemade mayo that has no sugar and it's really good! http://recipes.sparkpeople.com/reci
pe-detail.asp?recipe=2197113 (you'll have to copy and paste the link) It has splenda in it, but that's optional. I'd try it without first, then if it's bitter, you can add just enough sweetener for your own tastes. The keys to success with this recipe are the "extra light" olive oil, and the immersion blender.

Wow thank YOU so much for the inspiring words, today is Day 5 on Paleo and guess what? I had ZERO insulin today (I usually have 4 injections everyday!) and this morning I tested my blood sugar and my glucose was NORMAL - 110! Which is better than it usually is with 4 injections daily, I am so grateful.
