My Third Day One :)

Well, in truth, I've had a bazillion Day Ones. But this is my third, short-term personal challenge. First, I spent 3 days eating nothing but raw fruits and veggies (a surprisingly enjoyable challenge), then I spent the last 7 days trying to do some sort of exercise each day.

This week's challenge is to do 10 minutes of exercise and track all my calories for 7 days.

I planned my meals last night, which made the tracking part easy. That said, the day has had its challenges. I was feeling like I'd like to eat, so I went to the kitchen to fill up my water bottle, thinking drinking some water would help. But next to our water filter were two large trays of unusually tempting goodies left for us. I knew I was going to crack, so I ate a square inch of the tastiest-looking option and walked away with my water bottle. I'll call that a victory! In exchange, I didn't eat the almonds I had planned to with lunch. If it turns out I'm hungry tonight, I can always eat them later. All in all, I would say I've been struggling with hunger less today than yesterday...but I still feel like I'd prefer to eat much more than my "allowance."

For exercise, I knocked it out of the park - I went and biked for 31 minutes. Not 30 - I did 30 last time. 31...because I want to continuously improve. Last time I covered 7.25 miles. This time, I pushed myself at the end in order to make it to 7.5 miles. Progress! Also, I could tell that yesteday's stairs had an impact because my legs were feeling just a little tired while I was trying to push myself this morning. Success!

The not-so-great news is that my ankle has been sore. Unfortunately, I think I overestimated my ability to heal quickly. I also still cannot really grip anything with my left hand - I couldn't wrap my fingers around enough to get a heart rate reading on the bike. But, at least I've got enough options to continue moving forward toward my goals.

I had a lot of trouble waking up this morning, despite getting 8 hours of sleep, so I don't think trying to workout at home tomorrow is a smart plan. Instead, I think I'll try the elliptical at the gym tomorrow.

    Congrats on finishing your other challenges -- and good luck with this upcoming one. Sounds like you are making all of the right decisions. Kudos to you for eating a bite of the tempting goodies (and not the whole thing) -- that's what will keep you from wanting to binge later if you allow yourself a little portion of those temptations and keep track. Don't push it too hard with your ankle and hand -- remember this is it for the long term. :-)
