Good News besides the scale number

Thursday, April 25, 2013

In an effort to keep myself motivated I have been focusing on positive effects of my healthier eating habits - not on the scale reading. Here's what I have experienced:

I was struggling with some irritable bowel issues - can make life difficult when you can't always get to the bathroom quickly AND was giving me an excuse not to exercise - because I could have an issue while I was in the middle of a walk far from a restroom, etc. Anyway, with almost 2 months of healthier eating these symptoms have completely disappeared. I can now exercise, go on long walks, or just do my daily routines at work without a sudden panic that I may not get to the bathroom in time.

I was also experiencing acid reflux issues at night. Now, with the loss of 20 pounds and healthier eating, those issues have also disappeared. So, no more pepcid pills at night - just a healthier me hitting the pillow.

So far, with the help of the sparkpeople tracking features, these changes have been easy. I have quite a bit left to lose - another 40 lbs would be fantastic - but no matter what, the health benefits I have experienced so far have convinced me that regardless of what the scale says, this is a healthier, happier life for me. Staying motivated is easy when you know you are doing something really good for your body and you can feel the difference in your day to day life. This is no longer a diet for me, this is the new reality of how I want to live.

That must be such a relief - my husband and I both have similar issues - I know the weight loss has to help- it's good to hear about your improvements; gives me hope.

Best wishes for success with the remaining goals- you've done so well already!

    You are making great progress.

Isn't it great to be able to lie down without being propped up on lots of pillows?
