almost to the end of the week... almost there!

I made it home last night, luckily I thought to ask the driver of the one bus if it was going to my stop because it wasn't. (some of the busses run a limited version of the route, under the same route number, so if you don't know that and don't know what to look for on the destination title, you're screwed... it's genius)

I tracked my walks to and from bus stops and they are all right around .35 miles, so at least I'm getting a broken up mile or so in my day. Of course it also takes now close to an hour each way to make my under 10 mile commute.

ah well... I'm hoping mom might take pity on me and swing me by the market this weekend when we go shopping, I talked her into taking me so I can get a gift for a friend's baby shower... now I just have to figure out how to get to the baby shower. In return I'll help mom freshen up her resume, no problem.

I'm feeling kinda crappy that I keep missing work outs this week because I have no way to get to the Y, and with the extra long commute home I've now lost my normal work out time. I did mow the lawn both sunday and yesterday though, and I decided to go ahead and track that on the fitness tracker and I was kinda surprised that sp accepts that as an exercise, so hey, I'll take it. I'm still trying to get caught up on an art project I'm working on that's due next week and I made some good progress on that last night, as well as the usual dishes/dinner/next day's lunches chores. I'm going to try to go for a run tonight in the space of time that I mowed the lawn last night, hopefully that'll work for me.

The reality of public transportation is always different than the ideal. That's one reason it's so hard to get people to give up their cars. Walking, even in segments is a good idea. Hang in there!

Thank goodness you have a bus and the walking will replace the Y temporarily. Hope your car is fixed soon.

You know what this reminds me of? I attended a workshop a couple of weeks ago called "Bridges out of Poverty" that's designed for social service workers to get an understanding of what their low income clients have to deal with on a day to day basis, and why it's so difficult for them to do things that the rest of us mortal, middle-class beings take for granted. The clearest example was what you talked about with turning your normal 10 - 15 minute commute in your car into an hour or more using public transportation. Then imagine having to do it in bad weather while dragging along a couple of little kids. It was a real eye-opener.

There's nothing like losing your car for a few days to suddenly see how easy we have it.
