Non- specific threat @ school

Wednesday, April 24, 2013

My brother is going back to college right now, and last night we received an e-mail from the college that a " non-specific " threat was written about on a bathroom wall. Something would happen on 4/24. This morning they sent him another e-mail that police security was checking everyone's bags, and to plan for extra time.

He has to go in early anyways to work on a powerpoint presentation, and then his one class for the day is in the very building the threat was written in. Of course the entire campus is on lockdown. I suggested he just stay home, but he went anyways. Hoping nothing happens, and it was most likely a prank, but I do not think if they find this person, they will be laughing.

Most days we complain about government, taxes etc. Times like this, and the Boston bombings that you stop and say sometimes government is useful. While I would just stay away, the police are working directly in harm's way to prevent others from being harmed, and we should stop and thank them more often.

I agree - everyone complains about the government, but our taxes buy services we really need like police, FBI, firemen, and so on. I hope it all came out OK.

Yeah, if it IS a prank, being expelled is the LEAST of that person's worries.

Thought it was interesting that Newtown's voters rejected a huge town budget increase (nearly 5%) that would have hired additional police officers and unarmed security guards for the schools.

Honestly, even an armed guard on site probably wouldn't have prevented the tragedy, and having any adult with a weapon actually INCREASES the likelihood of violence.

Sad too that one incident brings out kooks to write annonymous threats, send E-mail threats, just shakes the trees and all those with a weak grasp on sanity fall out and act out.

Hope your brother gets through his day without incident. And yes, Thank God for the
Police and First Responders. And those who keep us safe.

You are so right we take so many things for granted and it is sad that only when we feel personally threatened do we reflect on that fact.

Have a wonderful safe day and hope your brother is not in harms way.
