I haven't posted in quite awhile on Spark People due to being so busy and trying to get through every day life.
I have been trying to save money in the process of that busy life and have been doing pretty good. My daughter and son are going to their very first prom ever this upcoming Friday night with some homeschool friends and so I've been trying to get my daughter prepared for that.
My husband took care of my son's clothes, and while he didn't get the greatest deals and has zero patience with finding them, he did manage to get him a tie on clearance, so I guess that's a good start, LOL.
My daughter and I have been hitting my favorite stores such as Ross, JC Penney's, and of course, thrift stores. She has a dress if we can't find anything else, but shoes are the worst for both of us as we have narrow heels and everything falls off of them.
One of our local thrift stores has 50% off everything today, so we're definitely going to hit that after school.
I've been shopping at Aldi's and the mom & pop store near me more than ever and discovered more energy bars thanks to the mom & pop store. I've seen them before in stores, but was too cheap to buy them, but they had a bag of 12 of them for $2.00 so I gave them a try and they are now my favorite energy bar. They are Kind bars and are wonderful!
They end up costing me only 16 to 17 cents each, so quite a great deal for a great-tasting bar and that is full of one of my favorite foods, nuts!
My daughter has started being more adventurous in her food tastes because she sees me doing the same thing, and I'm so happy that she FINALLY likes hummus! I got some chipotle pepper hummus at Trader Joe's not too long ago and she declared that it was delicious!
That makes me so happy because she eats so healthy and I notice that she is eating more and more fruits and vegetables without me even nagging or reminding her.
My son is still trying to lose weight and especially so now that he's got his eyes on the girls more. I feel really bad for him though because one girl he liked in our homeschool group invited my best friend's son to another prom and will probably go to this upcoming one with him as well. Of course my son liked her, and it's so hard to be the mom and see them get hurt. He has learning disabilities as well so he already feels bad about himself, but I just worry that the teenage years will only make that worse when "puppy love" comes in the mix. It was so much easier when they were young and all they had to worry about was simple things, LOL.
We got passes to our local amusement park and took our first trip there recently. Unfortunately I was not feeling my best and got sick twice. I'm dealing with some health issues again and it's causing some issues, so I do see me probably having to have surgery in the future if nothing changes.
We went roller skating Monday night with our homeschool group and my kids and I had a great time. I'm super sore, but it felt great. I keep thinking that I would love to have my own skates and will have to look into that as it's great exercise and not too expensive.
