It's happy and sad at the same time

Tuesday, April 23, 2013

I finally did it. I parted with my favorite purple sweater. It was time. I had undergrown it. This wasn't a really recent development. I should have said goodbye this winter. But it is my favorite sweater. It is a deep purple with a V-neck. It isn't too heavy (I tend to be a warm person, and I'm pretty well insulated) and works great with a lacy cami under it. I put it on last week with the intention of wearing it out. I looked in the mirror and realized it looked pretty ridiculous. Part of me wants to hang on to it, because I like it so much. But the rational part of me decided it needs to get out of the house. I don't need to hang on to clothes that are too big for me. I do much better if I only have clothes that fit. Not extra sizes "just in case" I happen to gain or lose weight. I will get new clothes as I need them, but I purged the small sizes several years ago. It was good because they were starting to get outdated anyway.

So....goodbye favorite purple sweater. I hope you make someone else as happy as you made me.

I hate having to say goodbye to clothes I loved before! Fortunately, there were only a few things I really felt bad for getting rid of. Congratulations on a bittersweet victory! The bright side is, now you can find something new you really like!

It's hard to get rid of something you love just because you have outgrown it, but you'll find something else to love. We all do.

Congrats on undergrowing your clothes. I think it's a big step to let go of something so "precious" from your past. Time to move on, though. Good luck finding that new favorite sweater.
