The saying about best laid plans of mice and men going awry is a good description of my day! It started off fine, up, brushed my teerth, made coffee, turned on the tv for a bit then got in the shower as planned. Finished my coffee, dressed, then checked my e-mail. There was a lovely one from a dear friend that was so beautiful that it brought tears to my eyes. Just thinking about it and the wonderful times Ed and I had with them after meeting them on a Parrothead cruise, the times we spent at their lake home, in New York last year, on the cruises, visits they made here, etc, brings tears of joy and sorrow. Joy because they are such wonderful friends, sorrow because Ed isn't here now to enjoy their special friendship.
So, how did the plans go awry? i was to meet a friend for lunch at one of our favorite spots, Bravo Cuccina, a very good Italian restaurant. I was on my way and about a mile from my destination a young woman ran a stop sign and hit me. I saw out of the corner of my eye what was going to happen and sped up but she still hit the back passenger side of my vehicle. It gave me quite a jolt even though I was wearing my seat belt.
I immediately called 911 and we began to hear sirens rather quickly. Then we waited, and waited, and waited. Over an hour later the officer showed up. He explained that there had been a bank robbery and there was a situation where they had to have a house surrounded because of and I am not sure of the explanation. Any way, even though the young woman was at fault the officer didn't give her a ticket for running the stop sign, for not having the required license plate, or anything. he just wrote our information down and gave it to us. By that time my friend had eaten and left the restaurant.
i came home and started up the stairs and that is when the pain hit. I had to use the hand rail to pull myself up the stairs; so, I decided to go to the er. Four hours plus later I was given a script for pain meds and muscle relaxers and sent home. Thank God that the hardware holding my vertabrae in place was doing its job and had not been damaged when I was jerked in my seat.
Now I sit here with an ice pack on my back thankful that no one was really hurt and thankful for first responders even when my situation doesn't take priority. I am hoping that the young woman has learned her lesson to stay stopped when looking at her phone for any reason. I thank God that I remained calm and did not get angry. I thank God for my daughter who came and fed Sandy Claws, my cat, and brought pizza and salad for me since I had nothing but an ounce of cheese and a piece of whole grain bread all day. I thank God that no one was hurt any worse than muscle pain. I am sad that Ed wasn't with me at the ER to keep me company and I am sad that he isn't here now to get my prescriptions filled tonight and instead I will have to wait until tomorrow. I pray that I will not be too sore to sleep.
