Helping My Disabled Daughter

Tuesday, April 23, 2013

How was your day?

Mine was pretty busy. Getting ready for an IEP meeting tomorrow morning with one of my daughters who will be 18 in September. She is cognitively disabled, so she'll have to stay in high school for a couple of more years just so she can get the whole independent living thing down.
I'll be filing for guardianship of her next month to early June. I hate court rooms, but this is something that has to be done for her.

Does anyone have any experience in dealing with this sort of matter? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I wish I had some advice to share or some great words of wisdom for you. I haven't been through the guardianship process or anything, but I did want to say that my heart goes out to you.

My daughter has OCD, GAD, social anxiety, Ollier's Disease, scoliosis, chronic intestinal problems, and an auditory processing disorder. Cognitively, she's fine, but she's way behind others in socialization and in being independent.

I hope everything goes very well for you and your daughter, and that the court visit is less of an ordeal than you might imagine.

Blessings,
