Crawling back from the brink...

So... I gained a lb yesterday. Wth? I don't know. I know, I know, don't focus on the scale, weight fluctuates, etc etc etc. I know all that, but I was still miffed. The logical solution, therefore, was to eat a giant breakfast sandwich. Apparently I felt sorry for the lonely pound I gained and decided to gain another one so it would have company.

I ate this big breakfast, and then went back to bed. As if it wasn't good enough that I ate a huge sandwich, I had to sleep to give it time to settle. Fortunately, I woke up in better spirits. I decided I was going to try to salvage my day, instead of just throwing in the towel. First step: Enter what I ate into SP. When I did... I discovered I ate 840 calories FOR BREAKFAST! So, yeah... that didn't leave me a lot to work with. But, since I had slept most of the morning and into the early afternoon, I realized that if I only ate dinner, and then a snack, I could save the day. So, that's what I did.

And, dinner was excellent. I made a country steak recipe I found here, and it turned out great. You can take the girl out of the country, but you can't take the love for country steak out of the girl. Dh loves gravy, and as any good country girl knows, half the point of country steak is to have the gravy. So he was pleased as well. I was pleasantly surprised that I was pretty full after dinner, so I was determined to make it through the day.

After dinner, we went to drop off some recycling and pick up some printer paper. {So I could print my recipe for tomorrow!} THAT was hard. I really struggle with going somewhere and not eating. I got into the habit of always picking up some fast food or an ice cream treat or even just an Icee. The point is that leaving the house = calories. I settled for a Diet Mt Dew and came home with no more calories than I left home with.

So, after all this babbling, I'll get to the point -- I've saved my day! Granted it's still a couple of hours til bedtime, but I AM going to make it. I've stayed within my calorie goal, despite the slip up this morning. This is huge for me. I have a terrible habit of expecting perfection, and when I don't get it, I throw in the towel. But I have survived to be healthy another day.

    Nice save!

The realization that falling short of perfection isn't total failure is a key insight, and it's something you have to figure out on your own schedule. Not enough just to hear it, you really have to buy into it.
