Last night, I made the plunge - for the first time in maybe a year, I went back to my apartment's fitness center!
These past few weeks I've tried to add more exercise in my life, mostly in the form of walking during lunch. It's great, but some days just aren't conducive to walking at lunch (I work in the Portland area, and rain is almost always a threat!). I've been kicking myself for not using my apartment complex's fitness center more - I do pay for it, after all.
But you know how laziness and inertia are. Bad Habits are hard to break, and that little part of your lazy mind LOVES to talk you out of things.
But last night, I wouldn't have it. I told that part to shut up. I pulled out my old fitness clothes (which were very loose - last time I worked out, I was probably 250 pounds), tightened up my Nikes, and got my iPod ready for a workout after dinner.
I only spent 33 minutes total on the treadmill and 5 minutes was cooldown. Also, I didn't have it set at an incline nor did I go faster than maybe 3.6 mph (so a fast-ish walk). But it was great to groove out to my tunes, to feel a sweat starting up along the hairline, and get some reading done (LOVE how I can bring a book and prop it up while I'm walking).
After I was done, I was a bit dizzy, but I think that was mostly because of not being on the treadmill anymore. Honestly, it felt great to build up a sweat. I remember thinking, "I like working out - why don't I do it anymore?"
It's not much, but it's a start. And it's a start I want to keep going. I'd like to work out at least 3 times a week. And eventually, I'd like to start training to run. :)
