10,000'+ I CAN do it!!

Tuesday, April 23, 2013

Hiked my first 10,000+ peak this past weekend.

I'm living at sea level, and having experienced altitude sickness on a previous hike, I was a bit worried going into this one. I did go in much better prepared though, which made all the difference.

At an elevation gain of about 900' per mile, this one was moderately steep. It surprised me to find out that my heart rate does come down a lot slower at higher elevations. This, of course, makes sense.

I'm proud of my first 10,000+ adventure. It was exhilarating. I'll be playing above 8,000' a lot this spring and summer.

Here is my summit picture.

The views were magnificent.

    Wow! Just wow!

I can admire your accomplishment, but you'd have difficulty getting me much above sea level!

Fantastic! I love to hike too -- especially those hikes that have a real accomplishment factor associated with them like Mt Baldy. Congrats!

When we were in Peru we began drinking coca tea de mate and we still order it regularly from (in addition to helping with altitude sickness, it helps with bruising and a number of things).
What an amazing view! And an amazing accomplishment!

What an awesome accomplishment! I would love to have that kind of opportunity--if I ever get close enough to a mountain--I will be excited!

Wow, congratulations! We will be hiking the Inca Trail in Peru in September and I am scared to death of altitude sickness. The highest peak in Arkansas is about 2700 feet! emoticon If things go well this summer we'll hike in Colorado for a couple of weeks to try to acclimate. Any suggestions about hiking at high altitudes?

Oh! And CONGRATS on the hike!! AWESOME pictures and accomplishment!!
