It's time to re-evaluate.
Food has been slipping. I've tried to up my fruits and veggies but somehow I ended up adding to the sweets also.
So, sweets are being given visitation rights. Once a week I'll pick something that I've been wanting or make something for the kids and just keep myself to one serving of it. I also need to include a list of what counts as sweets so I don't try to find a way around it later. Here's the list:
Pancakes (One of my kids favorite breakfast items. I'll still make them for them, but I'll stick to my oatmeal.)
Ice Cream - My husband's only vice (and one that I don't usually even like all that much but have found myself eating more often!)
Brownies, Cake, Cookies, Cupcakes, Fudge, French Silk Pie
I'm sure I'll add to this list as I go along, but this is my start.
For the second half of this challenge, I WILL eat, at least 5 servings of fruits and veggies daily! That's it! That's all there is to it. I need to do it. In the past I've given myself time to work towards something; I feel like I've had plenty of time to work towards 5 servings of fruits and veggies per day, so now it's time to say, "This is it!" As Nike says, "Just do it!"
Now, the time frame. That is a little harder to figure out. I want to accomplish everything but I don't want to make it as little as a week because that doesn't seem like enough time to prove anything to myself. I also want to help it become more of a habit and lifestyle change. So, do I give myself one month for the challenge and risk going right back at the end of May? Or should I shoot for 3 months, when I know I'm coming up against multiple roadblocks for my challenge?
I'm going to go for 3 months because of all of the challenges I'll face along the way. If I can work through them, then I know I'll be more effective. (If I don't work through them, I'll re-evaluate and see what I can do better the next time rather than dropping the whole challenge.)
From today, April 23rd until July 31st I will limit sweets to one day/week and up fruits and veggies to 5 servings/ day.
