Day off

Tuesday, April 23, 2013

Dh was supposed to be enjoying his day off today. Except...last night while finishing the dishes I kept hearing something dripping. I checked under the sink and it was flooded. I didn't wake dh who had already fallen asleep. So, I cleaned up the mess. It took an hour, because I had to disinfect too.

The next morning we inspected the pipes, etc. under the kitchen sink. Dh found a bad gasket connected to the garbage disposal. So, after running around town trying to find a replacement gasket (small town, no good hardware stores). He finally got one. Hooked the pipes up with new gasket, run the water & still water is leaking. Check the disposal & find a "hole" in the back-side of it. I didn't know a disposal could get a hole in it??! Aren't they supposed to be tough (although it was 20 yrs. old). emoticon

Anyway, disconnected the pipes again, took out old garbage disposal & replace with new one. Replacing disposal is NOT an easy task & we are on "hour #3" of working on this issue. An adult just does not fit well under a kitchen sink to work on it. That was dh, not me. He was not happy at this point. So, finally got the new disposal in & we run the water and all is well. So, I start the dishwasher & water starts squirting out the "air only" vent from the dishwasher. So, we have water all over the kitchen counters & floor...again. We inspected the pipes, the hoses, clamps, gaskets and dh finds that there is a plug in the entrance to the "new disposal." If we would have finished reading the installation "directions" - it says to "punch out" the plug so the dishwasher water can flow through. Oops ! emoticon

It always seem we have to learn the hard way to read the directions first! Whenever my husband and I have a project to do, it always takes twice as long as it should no matter what the project is and multiple trips to town (we're 25 minutes out) to get the right parts! Hope you have more relaxing days the rest of the week.

Wow, that is no fun. What an exhausting day off!

But now you have a new disposal, and a dry under-sink!
