Wasting time

Monday, April 22, 2013

I waste time. I waste a LOT of time. I am a chronic time waster. I am working on it... but I waste time even doing that! I try to multi-task, but instead I simply get a tiny bit of a whole bunch of things done, and nothing accomplished at all. I am trying to focus on being more focused, but am having trouble focusing. Jeez.

So this blog entry is supposed to be about the time I waste. I take almost two hours to get ready for work. I have no idea what I am doing for that long. I often stay at work until after 5pm. I have no idea what I am doing for that long. I stay up until an unreasonable hour most nights. I have no idea what I am doing for that long. I am seeing the pattern here.

I could definitely squeeze a quick workout into my morning routine. And another after school before I eat. And another in the evening. Or at least ONE of those times. I need to find a time that can fit into my routine whether my kids are here or not. That is the key.

I find that I am a huge timewaster, too (Neopets is my addiction). I have tried to stop multi-tasking. Too many studies prove what I pretty much already knew -- that multi-tasking is a myth, we really don't get any more done. So I try to do my work in blocks, picking a stopping point and working up to that, before moving on to concentrate on a different task. That does help some.

Working out in the morning has worked best for me. You just have to do it, and I don't have any advice on /how/, other than pick a day, and simply do it. Then once you've done it, pick the next day and do it. Don't even worry about if you work out or not. I've gone to the gym and just done 15 minutes and left. The key is to make that time part of your habit. It's difficult, but once you buckle down, you can do it.

(Confession: I've done certain machines that allow me to play Bejeweled Blitz on my phone while I've worked out. It's the Leg Press machine, and it just works my legs, and my hands are free. I know...I'm a total loser!)
