There are many kinds of loss
Monday, April 22, 2013
I've been a little bit peppy since the weekend. I got new pants, and it's the first time I've been in a 36 waist in a number of years. Clearly I'm doing something right with my program this year. That's the good kind of loss.
The other kind of loss has been with me since last Saturday, really, when a runner collapsed near the finish line of the 5K I had just completed. He was surrounded very quickly by responders, but could not be revived. I feel for his family members, who were running the race with him.
Then there was Monday, in Boston. Then there was Wednesday, in Texas. Then, the emotional rollercoaster of following the Boston developments through Friday night... Then I came home tonight to find that Richie Havens, who sang at Woodstock, passed away. Richie was one of my musical heroes, I'd seen him a few times and always left feeling something like an electrical charge that stayed with me for days, and comes back simply from recalling the performances.
