We met The Boy and His Girl at the zoo yesterday. It had been years since we visited. My grandmother lived in The City and I feel that I grew up there. She lived just a few blocks from The Zoo and I have many wonderful memories of time spent there.

Even before we had kids, my husband and I were Zoo members. Once we had kids, we went there even more -- even though it's about an hour-and-a-half drive from us. Gas was reasonable back then. We were regular Zoobies until Sports intervened and our weekends were a blur of soccer, baseball, and basketball. Then, there was high school and all of the activities that resulted. Then, the kids were out of the house. Our membership lapsed long ago.
As we walked through The Zoo, we were pleased with some of the changes that had been made since our last trip. The habitats are more "natural." We saw old animal friends. My husband and I kept saying things like "remember when we stood in line for...." "remember when we saw Prince Charlie/the new polar bear/the baby black rhino/the baby snow leopard, the new penguin exhibit..."

The Boy doesn't have many memories of his many trips as a kid. It was so much fun seeing The Zoo through adult children's eyes.
We'll make more memories together.
