Let the taper begin!
I am on my final week of my half marathon training and I could not be happier. My training has gone just as planned even with a few hiccups along the way. But no training plan is ever perfect right?!?
I spent the last 16 weeks preparing for this race. I tracked my runs and even charted them being the excel spreadsheet geek I am. LOL! I got up early on Saturday mornings to complete long runs. Even though I had the flu and an injury during my training, it only side tracked me for a few of my runs. I was determined!
And all those miles logged has me feeling ready, prepared, and very excited!
I finished last week running 24 miles. I had my last long run before race day on Saturday and my friend and I did 8 miles. It was a great run on Saturday and I was happy to see all the energy I had after the run. I guess my body knows what is coming up next weekend. It knows it is go time!
Now this week I will be tapering my runs. I plan on running at least 3-4 miles today. Another 3 miles on Wednesday. And then 2 miles on Thursday. Friday will be my rest day.
The only thing I am very worried about for Saturday is the weather. Minnesota has NOT seen spring yet. Every week we have been getting dumped on with snow. Having snow and cold temps also brings ice. I can take the rain.... I just don't want ice on race day. (That is how I got my injury during my training.) Running on ice is NOT fun.
To give you a little picture as to what Minnesota looks like right now. Here are some pictures from our hiking we did on Sunday.
The rivers and lakes still have ice. And we had fun trudging through the snow in the woods. Where there wasn't snow, it was nice mushy ground.
So I am hoping that the weather man was right and the 60 degrees they are saying we should have by the weekend sticks. If not.... it will still be good because I will be running.
13.1 here I come!!!!
