Oreo, the thing that is both good and evil!

Monday, April 22, 2013

I bought some Oreos this weekend, I need to quit giving into my daughter's cravings. I only like one type though, so that's a good thing. The bad thing is that I bought that flavor.

I immediately ate an entire section of those yummy "inside out" Oreos. An hour later I ate the second section. I think I ended up eating all but four of them.

It doesn't surprise me that I'm up about a pound from that encounter. I was actually down a little from what my tracker currently says, now I'm up about half a pound.

Fortunately I did also stock up my kitchen with all sorts of fruits and veggies that were on sale this weekend. I specifically made two trips so I could hit up both sales (sales start on Sunday). I'm looking forward to making that cucumber vinegar salad that was advertised yesterday on the home page. I am currently slow cooking a vegetarian chili with black and white beans instead of red kidney beans.

It was nice enough to take a walk around the park this morning, so I did two laps! Take that Oreos! Since I'm upset at those cookies, I'm also in full spring cleaning mode and plan on getting rid of the mold that likes to grow in the windows and perhaps floors will be cleaned today also!

I planted some potatoes in a pot this weekend, I'm looking forward to a new plant in my container garden. This summer will also have a new corn hybrid so I can do several in my pots. If only the snow would melt and stay gone! It's really pushing back the growing season, I fear it will be a very short season this year.

Once the ground is ready, I am also allowed to plant at my mother's place. I convinced her to start a garden again, I will help. I've been itching to start that garden, but know it won't happen until next month. We can grow bigger things in a large backyard.

I mistakenly said yesterday was Earth Day, sorry I got the date wrong, today is. Because of it being Earth Day, this week, April 22-26, you can get into the National Parks for Free! So try out one of those parks you have always wanted to visit, but couldn't afford the entrance fee. There are several other dates you can get into for free too:
Another good freebie, bring your own mug and get a free coffee at Caribou. Find a few other free things at this site:

Today's other holidays: Girl Scout Leader Day and National Jelly Bean day. Take your jelly beans in moderation!

    Oreos are a dangerous thing!

I forgot all about parks you have to pay to visit, in Iowa, they are free (except to camp in them). Guess we got spoiled?!

Keep up the walking and the soon to be gardening, lots of calories can be burned with gardening. My neighbor man uses a shovel to turn his whole big garden by hand, every fall and spring and he is so fit!

I love Oreos, as well, but since reading about trans fats I have managed to put them on my No Fly Zone list. I would otherwise so be doing what you did!
We've started our tomatoes, radishes and summer squash. Grapes and berries are started some new buds. I love gardening! The house cleaning - not so much.
    Have a fabulous day!

Sometimes those little devils just jump right in our mouth!

Take a breath and do what you are doing well. Buying fruit and exercising.

Let's hope you can plant the garden next month but since it seems to be snowing again, it might be June or July.
Sorry about those Oreo cookies. I hate to buy those kind of things because they certainly can be addictive. At least you were able to get out and walk.
    Have a great Monday!

I know what you mean about the Oreo's. They are my downfall. I can't buy them at all. My kids have been very understanding about why we can't have them in the house.

We haven't done a garden in a few years, and my husband put a shed in last year where it used to be. I'm considering doing some potted tomatos (love them!) but i'm not sure if I will plant anything more. Good luck on your garden.

Good for Vegans (no animal products) But bad for people watching sugar intake. I found that when I was going Vegan, that there were 2 items Fritos and Oreo's that Vegans could eat. But with the Fritos it was corn oil, one of the worse things someone
    watching cholesteral #'s can have.

    I am soooooo with you!!

While crackers are my public enemy #1, cookies are right up there for me. They call and call and call... until I just HAVE to eat them!. emoticon

Altho my dh and dd's like and can eat them in 'reasonable, normal' amounts, I've decided that if they want to eat them, they can get a few at the convenience store cuz I'm NOT buying them anymore!!!

DH bought me a tomato plant emoticon We will also plant a few onions, carrots and basil. Very small scale. I LOVE making sauce from stuff in my 'garden'!

    Your cleaning is inspiring me.....

    Happy Day!

Ouch on the Oreos. Hopefully you are done with that craving for a while. Maybe you can get dd a flavor you don't like. Did not know you could raise corn in containers. Let me know how that goes. Still debating if I want to raise a garden this year. I aven't for the last few years with all that we do with 4-H. The best time to work the garden is also the best time to work with the animals. Good for you doing that extra lap at the park. It's cold here and windy. Some areas near here have snowed. Good for you going that extra mile. You're inspiring me to get going on my spring cleaning. Have a great day.

It's always to nice when we can eat fresh herbs and veggies from our own gardens. I tried a bigger garden in the past and didn't have terribly good luck. It's very time consuming and labor intensive and I realized its really cheaper just to buy the produce in the supermarket (which some of it is grown locally in the summer anyway) or at the farmers market. I do still want to plant an herb garden. As if our growing season isn't short enougth I'm afraid all this cold weather is really going to shorten it further. I'm praying its not a totally cooler than normal summer. Happy Earth day. I'm praying your snow melts soon!! emoticon emoticon
