Two 20 mile rides - back to back

Monday, April 22, 2013

What a difference a day makes.

Yesterday, with a real fierce headwind, I did 20 miles in 1 hour 50 minutes.

Today, I took twenty minutes off my time - 20 miles in 90 minutes.

It was really great to have time to be able to get in two 20 mile rides in as many days. It has been a really, really long time since I've done that. Better than that, I have regained enough of my fitness to recover from a long ride within about 24 hours, enough so to go on another long ride the next day with even a better time.

I still have a long way to go to get back to where I was about a year ago. But I'm making good progress, I'm getting my cycling fitness back, and I'm having fun doing it. But after two long rides back to back, and with some bad weather approaching tomorrow, I think it might just call for a recovery day with a nice long soak in the jacuzzi.

    Good job!

I commute several days a week on my bike through most of the year. November-January are too unpredictible, so I generally don't bike commute then. I have yet to develop the discipline to ride an indoor trainer, so picking up the bike in the early spring is always starting over. It doesn't take long for me to fall back in love and swear I'll never leave the bike.

Good for you! Isn't it a great feeling of accomplishment to get out there? I went out for a run/walk yesterday and it was a little windy at times, but I'm trying to get outside more and off the treadmill. I went about 2.5 miles and I need to get out again today hopefully and then to my running class on Wednesday. I hope you get to enjoy a soak in the jacuzzi!
