Hi Everyone!

Well, we are really living in Spain now. The trip over here went very well. My little doggie was a real tropper. He seemed to handle the flight quite nicely.

The place needs a lot of fixing up. Our furniture and belongings will be coming the end of August. We had already promised to rent the villa out to a family for the beginning of August. That was before we had decided to move here. We will take a vacation in Italy while they are staying here and will not move our good furniture into the home until after they leave.

I am looking forward to turning this vacation rental into our home. It's really different this time. I have spent the last 4 years being detached from this place since we rented it out to vacationers. It was not in my best interest to look at it as our home, as so many people stayed here and it was not always treated with the greatest amount of respect by them. At the end of the season there was always quite a bit of damage and missing items. When we came in the spring each year to fix it up for the next rental season, it was always heartbreaking for me to see how people had treated "our home". My only coping mechanism was to stay detached and not put a lot of expensive furnishings in it.

Now I am here and I am having to switch my attitude. I want to embrace it as my new home, but I can't do that completely until the renters leave in August. We are going to fix it up quite a bit, repair the damages from last year's renters and do quite a bit of renovating. The family that is coming in August is only staying for 2 weeks. How much destruction can they do in 2 weeks?

Besides taking on the task of making the villa our home, I am in the process of finding food that I can eat. Everything is in Spanish, so I have had to have my google translate up while I put new foods into my tracker. I have started to track today. All along I have been trying to watch what I eat and my portions, but tracking is the best way for me to stay accurate. So far I have been doing it by guess and by golly! I think I have gained weight, but my scales is with the rest of the furniture and won't get here for another 5 months. I think I will be OK. I am a lot more active and I can tell by my clothes how I am doing. So I am not too worried about weighing myself.

I don't think that I have been getting enough protein. I am going to a big mall in Malaga tomorrow and will look for some protein powder for my breakfast smoothies.

It is nice to be back with all my Spark friends. Hope all of you are doing well!

Until next time!

So glad you all made it safe and sound - especially your puppy emoticon I think it's a good thing that your scale is away for a while so you can just enjoy your new surroundings without stressing over a number.

I can't wait to see some pictures of how you decorate your new home and hear about all your wonderful adventrues.

Glad to hear you are in Spain, safe and sound and happy.

Welcome back! I was thinking of you this morning and wondering if you made the move..
I hear you on renters doing damage.. Hope you can really make it your home after August and have most of your treasures around you.
Good luck finding new foods - it's challenging in the beginning but it does get better. After 3-1/2 years in Mexico I still struggle at times and my spanish is still less than basic :( (everyone wants to practice their english!) Shopping at the local markets will be so much fun!
    Enjoy your new life!

    Welcome back to sparks.
I love your attitude and thinking in so far as changing how you view your "home". I know you are going to make is beautiful and wonderful. Embrace the process as well. I remember when first moving to Mexico how I made a game out of finding things and understanding the Spanish. I was alone here for the first two years with my DH visit once a month as he was still working.
Best of eveything to you. Nice to have you back on sparks.

Welcome back Maureen. So glad to hear your
trip over was good. I know what you mean by
finding your house in a mess after renters were
in it. My home in Rhodes was the same. I ended
doing my own cleaning when I lived there and
could somewhat see what kind of people were
renting. The trials and tribulations of having
    a holiday rental property, eh?
I am sure when the renters leave in August you
will really get your house exactly how you want it.
I am sure you will be having lots of visitors now.
Hope you find your protein powder. You will soon
be a whizz at knowing your way around. I am so
