Oh Sweets. A substitution for other things!

Sunday, April 21, 2013

Per the suggestion of a very active member of this site, I'm taking the Sweet Tooth Challenge. My father's funeral was last week. The fact that he was 61, diabetic and a kidney transplant recipient earned me a talking to from my doctor. She's warned me that I must lose some weight (as she has for the last two years). Today has been the first day of the challenge and I spend all day Sunday in the kitchen usually. Today I leaned heavily on my new Sparkpeople friends and made two versions of chili, a veggie for myself and a 2 pounder version for the men in my house. It's still early. :)

I'm real sorry about your dad. Having watched the rapid deterioration of a type 2 friend who died at 57 from a stroke (he did not change his ways), I have some idea how horrible this was for you. But here is your motivation for eliminating sweets. Think how happy it would make your father to know his darling daughter avoided his problems and stayed healthy. emoticon

I'm sorry you've lost your father. But I'm glad you're taking steps to correct your own health issues. I wish you the very best of success every day, every hour, every minute, every step and every bite of your way.

Good for you seeing a doctor and wanting to improve your lifestyle! You can do it. i also enjoy spending Sunday's in the kitchen and just about any other spare time too. This past weekend, I tricked my family and made the Tofu Chocolate Cake from Spark Recipes (
ipe-detail.asp?recipe=12588). I highly recommend it for sweet cravings. I was shocked at how good it was and no complaints from the family at all.
