Night at the Opera

Sunday, April 21, 2013

We are grown-ups.

We had dinner at Original Joe's -- hadn't been there in years. The last time we went, our waiter told me that my timing was great -- the chicken livers and mushrooms (the only thing I've ever ordered there) was going off menu. We ended up there by accident, as the fancy schmancy place we were supposed to go to couldn't find our reservation. Ok. Anyway, on menu -- my dish (lies! All lies! Or, maybe the executive chef got so many complaints that it found it's way back). I substituted fresh veggies for pasta and took half of my entree home.

Then we saw Puccini Suor Angelica and Gianni Schicchi at the opera. I knew that when Lauretta sang O Mio Babbino Caro I would be sad and angry because The Girl isn't singing anymore. But the soprano was good (The Girl is better). I need to get over myself.

Sometimes I'm not very grown up after all.

sounds that you had a good time on your "adult night!" The opera sounds wonderful! You know, I have to say I "get" your anger/disappointment @ your DD giving up singing. My DD has a WONDERFUL soprano voice and really enjoyed the choir and singing she participated it. It sort of brought her out of her "shell". she decided last year as a Jr. in HS that she "didn't want to do it anymore." All I heard was talk about what her friends she'd sung with since MIDDLE SCHOOL were doing. I kept telling her, "Well, go back to it! No law against that!" Nope. So, I get it! Too bad. BUT maybe they'll go back to it someday. I just don't even bring it up anymore. Figure she already knows full well how I feel, and that's that. **SIGH** Hard being a "closed-mouthed Mama" when it comes to these things! LOL

Sounds like you were right in my neighborhood (unless there's another Original Joe's and I didn't know about it.) We don't have to be stuffy ol' grown-ups all the time. =P Glad you did enjoy yourself and find the new soprano good enough, even if not as good.
