Veggie Garden

Saturday, April 20, 2013

I do plant a garden, very small in amongst my flowers. emoticon , raspberries, and asparghus are usually all I have. I might try more this year but we will see. Our growing season here in Cheyenne is not real long so I usually buy plants that are pretty good sized. Last year my tomatoes did really good and I need to find the tag so that I can buy the same kind this year. They really had good flavor.

I tried to grow tomatoes from seed and they started out pretty good. So while they were in the good stage my brother was over and commented on them. In the meantime they died and I went to the nursery and planted the nice healthy plants. When my brother came back I asked him to come outside and see my tomato plants. He said no way! I winked and we had a good laugh.

All this spring moisture will be good for my raspberries. And hopefully for the asparghus. Not sure what other veggies I might try this year. Can't do much now until end of May because we could still have a freeze and besides it is too wet from the 13.5 inches of snow we just got and I hear more is coming Monday.

Wow, I didn't realize we had to wait till the end of next month to plant anything outside. It makes sense though, since we have two seasons- snow and Frontier Days. lol Hope you have good luck this year with your tomatoes!! emoticon emoticon

We had raspberry plants too when we lived in Colorado. I remember that I'd have to wait until the end of May to plant any veggies outside too. I never tried growing asparagus but I do love it!

That's really funny about your tomato plants! Reminds me of when I first started growing veggies. One day my MIL went to the nursery and bought some tomato plants with tomatoes on them. Then that evening while I was gone she dug mine up and planted the ones she bought. The next day she went out and showed me that my plants had tomatoes on them. I was so naive that I thought they had grown that quickly. LOL Of course, I didn't find out until several years later what she had done. emoticon

Good luck with your garden this year!

Good luck with your tomatoes. Mine have not been good for the last 2 years. I guess I should buy what you bought.
