I registered for two 5K races this weekend. Today's was in my hometown and Sunday's is about 40 miles away. Both are on very flat courses so I was thinking that I might have my best 5K time on at least one of them. I did that today even though my time would seem slow to many of my SparkFriends. What really shocked me was that I was first in the over 60 age category. I've received various prizes in my life for mostly not athletic efforts, but I never got a trophy before. I may never get one again and it wouldn't matter, but it did put a smile on my face and a bigger one on Judith's.
Tomorrow's race is on an old railroad bed that has been paved. I think I have a good shot at beating the PR I got today and I'm going to give it a real effort. There will be a lot more serious runners competing though, so I don't have any visions of getting to the podium again.
