So, me and over 1900 of my closest friends participated in a 5K today, one day after getting 17 inches of snow. Fortunately, our Minnesota zeal and the powerful April sun cleared the streets pretty well before the start of the race.
I confess I have been slacking lately but I had no idea how much. By the first half mile I was breathing heavy and by the mile mark I pulled off my jacket despite the 23 degree temperature. My daughter and my sister were blazing ahead of me without any problem whatsoever. The course was lovely and we had a ball, despite my being humbled in the extreme by the ease with which others were completing the course. I was just speed walking it, so it shouldn't have been that big of a deal, right? I do Walk Away the Pounds for the same amount of time daily, and often add Just Dance or another program to the day. But no....traversing actual ground is much harder -- I seem to recall that from before our unusually snowy winter.
This winter has made outdoor walks much more difficult as icy conditions are an impediment. Here is to hoping Spring eventually shows up so that I can get outside and regain some of what I lost. We made a pact today to try to shave minutes off our time next year -- weather permitting of course.
