It's been a long time coming, but today felt like spring was really here - probably snow again next week now. We went for a long cycle and it was really spirit lifting.
The sky was clear and bright blue, the countryside was green and lush, with plenty of dashes of colour from the primroses etc and the sea was calm and glistening. Plus the tide was right out so that the beach were sandy and inviting as we cycled towards Worthing in Sussex via riverside track and coastal cycle routes.
Worthing sea front was buzzing! I live in Brighton and have rarely set foot in our more sedate neighbouring town, but they seem to be doing a lot of things right there that Brighton isn't...
For a start there is a brand new swimming pool on the seafront, opening this week I think. We've been waiting for about 20 years for one in Brighton, and there's still no sign.
The prom is mixed cycle and pedestrian - plus skaters, scooterers and all sorts of other activities. This works so well. In Brighton it's very frustrating to have to cycle alongside the road knowing there is a huge, wide prom right next to the beach. There's plenty of room for everyone. I think it just needs to be clear that pedestrians have priority and you keep to a sensible speed!
We stopped for a drink at a little cafe run by artists! Very quirky, especially the loos which were decorated with art prints and poems! Lots of pics etc for sale too.
All in all I managed 32 km which pleased me greatly. Might do it again tomorrow:)
