DVD Review: Stronger Seniors Core Fitness Chair Exercise

Saturday, April 20, 2013

This is a chair exercise workout designed for seniors or anyone who has physical challenges.
It is Pilates based program designed to strengthen the abdominals, and the lower back and pelvic floor muscles, which support your spine and internal organs. It also helps to increase flexibility, mobility and balance.

This workout is approximately 30 minutes long. It includes a warm up which teaches proper breathing techniques, and ends with gentle stretching. Even though this is a chair based workout, there is segment that includes standing exercises. That part of it is about 6-7 minutes long, but even if you are not able to do the standing portion, it's still a great workout.

The instructor, Anne Pringle Burnell has an encouraging manner, and reminds the viewer if that they can't do everything in the program the first time they try it, that it's ok. She does the workout with 4 other people, and one of the women does modified variations of some of the more difficult moves for those not able to do what Anne is doing.

The workout is safe and easy to follow, but just challenging enough to feel like you've had a good workout.

It's sweet and helpful of you to post this for the rest of us. When my mom was going through chemo, she had a great deal of difficulty getting through her fitness program. She's now going to a gym, but I suspect she goes less often than we would like her to. (She lives an hour away so I can't help her.) We walk together sometimes and she has several very friendly walking friends. But it rains a lot in western Oregon, so it is nice to have a reviewed product I can suggest to her. I really appreciate it.

By the way, from what I can see, you are doing great. Keep posting for support. We love to see how you are doing and it makes us feel good to be able to give feedback. :)

Sounds good I like videos that have at least one person doing a modified version. I find that it frequently helps me even though I'm not handicapped, I am getting some age on my bones!
