A Trip to the Circus

Saturday, April 20, 2013

After five years of being together, my boyfriend finally whined enough that I went with him to the Circus.

I am not a fan of the circus. I really disapprove of ALL circuses. It is a hold over from my vegan/vegetarian days. You can read more about it here

(I would like to note, that I think PETA is a bunch of loons, but this does offer pretty good information)

It just hurts my heart to see some of the most majestic creatures on earth forced to perform silly acts for people. It hurts me to see them caged, abused and mistreated.

So, we went to the circus. When they brought the Tigers out in too small cages, some of them stir crazy and turning in circles, peopled ohhhh'es and ahhhh'ed... and I had tears in my eyes because my heart hurt for them. While the kids lined up for Elephant rides, I cried because my heart ached for them.

A lot of the other acts were pretty neat, but were overshadowed by the overwhelming sense of sadness I felt for the animals. I don't think I will be going back

It took me a few days to figure out what to say here because your thoughts and feelings are sooooo like mine about this subject! It really hit a long-sore nerve!

My DH LOVES animals. My kids LOVE animals. And zoos. And circuses. And animal amusement parks like 6 Flags. And county fairs where they had elephant rides. Every major city that we've traveled to for softball that had a zoo- we were THERE. When my oldest dd was young, we went to the circus every year.

I put on a brave face and sometimes made a few comments, but I was always sooooooo sad for those animals!!! Esp the elephants and tigers. They are so majestic and should be FREE, FREE, FREE!

The bonds between ellies in the wild is so strong that they will all turn to fight a chopper if one of them gets shot. That is why when culling it is easy to kill a whole family group, because they all try to help the one who is downed. Some come running from as far as 5 miles away to help.
In the circus situation the buying and selling of animals is the most cruel part. It is totally unnatural for those bonds to be broken that way. It is pshyco torture.
I loved the Moscow circus that came here a couple of years ago. It is only humans and dogs, and everybody knows what a happy dog who likes his job or a scared abused dog with Stockholm Syndrome looks like.
They dress the dogs like horses or lions etc.

I am totally with you on this. I refuse to go to a circus, under any circumstances. I read the other day how elephants are trained, and it made me feel sick. I feel so terrible for those poor animals, and the lives they lead. It's more cruel than death to treat them that way.

I hope your bf will understand when you refuse to go back.
