Garmin and Sparkpeople

Saturday, April 20, 2013

I have been using a Garmin device for a long time. I sync it with a website (since I am not in to promotion of specific products - I will leave it nameless).

I am sure I am not the only SP user who use a Garmin (or any electronic device to monitor walk, run, or bike activities) and download the GPS data for either record, or analysis.

I love the spark community and want to help the SP website to stay competitive with apps and other website. So, I wrote to SP and suggested that they work with Garmin to have to develop an electronic interface with the Spark website. (I don't think such an interface exist) - rather than manually entry to your SP page.

If you are a Garmin (or user of another electronic device with download capability) perhaps we can 'unite' and have the interface created.

just adding my support to the idea of being able to import data from garmin. I generally work out 5-10+ hours a week, and love the fact that my Garmin (310XT) takes care of all the data entry for me.

OH YEAH ! This is exactly what I'm looking for too! I am looking for the right online community which combines healthy eating and fitness tracking--if I'm gonna track mg of sodium in my food, I'm gonna track real calories and heart rate in my fitness. SP has a great community and I would LOVE for them to work with Garmin.

Doh! I can't believe I never thought of this myself. I love the fact that my fitbit syncs with Sparkpeople and simplifies my tracking. I reserve my Garmin for my running specifically and track my runs on the training center which of course allows me to keep close tabs on a lot of the things that are important to me for my training but it would be really nice if this also synced with SP. And being able to track gear? OMG that would be great too!

I totally agree! Also, I like to use mapmyrun to keep track of the mileage on my shoes. I would LOVE it if Spark incorporate a gear tracking function as well. Map My Run totally underestimates my calorie burn - so even though I am using it only for shoe mileage, it is still demoralizing to have run 10 miles and have MMR tell me I've burned 350 calories!! :D

I tried to use the map program the other day for a walk at our local park with a huge loop. I never thought about using the Garmin. I would love that as I hate another app I got that emails me constantly, yet doesn't work half the time when I am out.

I would definitely love something that links with the Spark website!!!!! emoticon
