Lead Us Not Into Temptation....

Saturday, April 20, 2013

Every day I say the Lord's Prayer and ask God not to lead me into temptation. Then I'll go ahead and lead myself there. And have to go about the business of getting myself out. And thinking it must be God's Will.

It's worth a little thought to keep temptation out of my way if I want to let God do His part. It takes prayer AND cooperation from me.

Been down that path many a time before. I do what Russell1960 describes. I allow some of everything so as not to feel deprived, and do put in in my tracker. Sometimes it is planned , and as I said in the beginning - sometimes not.
We all make this mistake - we're human.

Nell, you show so much grace under's either you or god(dess). Or maybe it's both. Whatever, keep doing what you're doing.

Love Russell's chocolate strategy..will give it a try...
I recite to myself the names of the books of the bible..when stressed...or faced with temptation..usually by the time I get thru all of them...I have moved passed the temptation. Works better than counting sheep when trying to get to sleep...think of the book, then what's in it...(thumbnails...)

The Holy Spirit does do a clean-up, but it is a gradual process. You will find, in God's time, that as you partner with God on temptation, that the source disappears. It isn't instant, but trust in the process, because God will take you there if you join in the effort.

I just shared on another person's blog how I have come to terms with my love of chocolate. If I tell the chocolate lover in me that I can't have chocolate, that part of me feels deprived and pushed aside. I can control it for awhile by force of will. But then when the chocolate lover in me gets an opportunity, it takes over in a terrible binge. What has worked better for me is to affirm and love the chocolate lover part of me. I plan for a little chocolate every day - Hersheys dark chocolate kisses have only 20 calories - I have one, just one,and let it slowly melt in my mouth and then I mark the 20 calories on my food tracker. I know that I can have another tomorrow. This way, the chocolate lover in me is affirmed but disciplined to support my weight and health goals. I have lost over 50 pounds eating chocolate on a regular basis in this way. Overcoming temptation may be about learning to harness the good in our desires in constructive ways rather then trying to force them down to avoid their destructive potential. If these desires are harnessed and utilized for the good God inspires us to, they lose their power to enslave us to actions that undermine our goals and potential. Best wishes and God's blessings to you.
