I joined Sparkpeople six years ago today on the suggestion of one of the trainers at the gym.
I checked it out and that was about it.
Me six years ago:
This photo was taken the year before but you get the idea.
When I first joined SP, I was more of a lurker than a doer. I would checked out things on the site and my teams but never participated. I wasn't ready to give it my all and push myself outside of my comfort zone. I stopped going on to SP.
In 2010 I'm not sure what happened but I decided to give SP a try again. I checked out some different teams and things started to click. The people on the By the Numbers team were great and I think because of them I kept coming back.
I made a great friend in NEWPMA and even though she's across the pond (as they say) we check in weekly and provide whatever level of support the other needs.
As my confidence grew on the site (and I figured out how friending worked) I met more great people. Each one as supportive as the next. It was a great experience for me.
I joined the gym at work! I had lost weight in the past but never "worked out." I hated it.
I had, at times, done some Leslie Sansone "tapes" at home but never felt like it was something that I had a burning passion for. Now I do. Wow. Who would have believed that a few years later I would be in love with the gym and working out. Feeling stronger and fitter.
What is my favorite part of SP? Why the people of course. They are awesome! Whether it's a food or exercise question/issue or a person issue, you all are the best! I post that I'm having an issue with whatever and there is someone that's been there before me and there's a team for support. SP is the cheapest shrink's couch!
Motivated and motivating to others
I won't give SP all the credit. This journey had to be something that I wanted, hungered for, had to have. For whatever reason, the second time back here did it for me and that switch was flipped. I used the tools that SP provided and made them my own. I didn't give up on myself and I never will!
Here's some photos of my journey:
