This will be a quick little blog - mainly because I'm tired. But it's a good tired.
I finally got my nails done today - Good grief! Every time I tried to get them done in the last two weeks, something came up to interfere!! But today - success! No pedicure, though - not enough time!
We had afternoon rain today, and the clouds parted long enough for me to check the garden - The second planting of beans have sprouted up, and the corn is up! Woo hoo!
And Bobbie Ann - Compost is a wonderful thing - If you till it into sandy soil, it makes it more rich. More organic material (compost) in the soil makes it hold water better. Soil here is dry and sandy right now - it takes a soaking rain to make any difference, otherwise, it runs off or evaporates. Since I'm cheap, I'm making compost, and it takes a few weeks, so my garden is planted in sandy soil. A light rain evaporates faster than it can soak in, so if I use the compost as a mulch, it will hold more moisture. Now, for "side-dressing." I can use compost as a side-dressing in pretty much the same way as mulch, but I will most likely side-dress with dry organic fertilizer as well. The fertilizer and/or compost is placed in a ring around the plants or down an entire row. Mulch is placed around and up to the plant. A side-dress is placed near the plant(s), literally on the side.
Since it rained tonight, I came inside and made homemade pizza - whole wheat crust, portobello mushrooms, green pepper, onions and black olives - and watched re-runs of Hell's Kitchen with my son - Great night!
Now, I'm whupped! I'm hitting the sack!
