Holy Hormones!

Friday, April 19, 2013

I saw the doctor on Tuesday and apparently there was an error on my thyroid test and I do indeed have hypothyroidism. Bah! This has brought about some clarity to symptoms I have had over the past several years - including my mental clarity and sometimes my vision is a little bit "wobbly". Not to mention that my metabolism has been a lot slower and I am always exhausted. Just figured it was about getting older and perhaps from having major abdominal surgery about 8 years ago. But perhaps it was thyroid related. We shall see.

So the dr started me on Synthroid. Today I was SO angry and full of rage. NICE mood swings, lol. And then I had my very first HOT FLASH! emoticon I also felt anxious and impatient. So it was a pretty rough day!

On a good note - I lost 10 pounds since starting water aerobics! Huzzah! emoticon Eating has still be iffy. Good days and bad.

My 43rd birthday is this Sunday and I figure that is a good milestone to really dig in and work on getting healthier.

Have a great weekend! emoticon

My mother read somewhere that thyroid issues are one of the most under-diagnosed illnesses. Many people are told they don't have it when they do.
sorry about the hot flash- it may be more related to the medicine. I am 57 and haven't had a hot flash yet but also still have my period occasionally- I think I am just hot all the time. I am hoping as I lose weight I may actually feel cool sometimes.
Congratulations on the 10 pounds! Happy Birthday emoticon emoticon

Happy Birthday to you tomorrow! Congrats on the 10# loss. Wonderful!
Contact your doctor and tell him the symptoms and mood swings you had when you started Synthroid. The dose may be too high. I am not a doctor, but that seems awfully young to have a "hot flash" , too.

I have the same thyroid issue and probably have most of my life. Taking meds one a day and 2 on Sunday. It helps. And I hope it does for you as well. I'm past menopause but ohhh those hot flashes.
Be kind to yourself and rest. How I would love to be 43 again.
Happy Birthday to you and many many more!
