So I imagine many of you have seen by now the Dove real beauty sketches video. It's great. Though my cynical mind does have a tendency to deconstruct and question such things as how the questions were posed and so on...still, I believe the heart behind the video is pure, and that is enough.
Then there's this. The same video...for men. It's definitely funny. But it made me think about how real this difference is. Here's the video link:
I'm sure there are many men out there with body issues. But you'd never know it. Many of them walk around as if they have the same attitude of the men in this video. Or even more strange...as if they just don't care.
What would happen if women walked around like this? If we didn't need men or women or videos to tell us we're beautiful? If we walked around thinking people see us like they see Julia Roberts or Beyonce? What if we just walked around like we really didn't give a flip what people thought of how we look?
I don't know. I'm not offering an answer. I just think it's an interesting question.
Also, where is the line drawn between confidence and arrogance, or between a healthy "I don't care how I look" attitude and one of "Why bother because what's the point"?
Things to ponder. :) Have a great weekend, all you BEAUTIFUL Spark ladies and gents!
PS...I truly hope this doesn't come off as me making fun of the Dove women's commercial OR saying that men don't struggle too. We all struggle. It's just a little bit of fun and a little bit of thought...for me.
