What Happened?

Friday, April 19, 2013

Yesterday, as I was struggling to pedal my bicycle uphill with 20 extra pounds of dog in my bike basket it occurred to me that bicycle riding wasn't as much fun as I remembered it being. As a matter of fact, quite a few things aren't the same as I remember.

For one thing, there was the long search for a bicycle I would feel comfortable riding. I actually understood how my first bike worked

I don't WANT some ridiculous number of gears on my bicycle!

That's a challenge I don't need.

I used to enjoy flying down hills.

Now I'm afraid of flying!

Riding wasn't a challenge, it was fun!

Now hills are a real problem.

I walked to school every day and really enjoyed it.

Somehow walks aren't as much fun now as they used to be.

I used to enthusiastically jump out of bed BEFORE the alarm went off.

I'm not so enthusiastic now.

Eating used to be enjoyable

Not so much any more

I grew up in Southern California and used to spend my summers sunbathing

Now I'm afraid of the sun

Swimsuit shopping was fun. I was much too critical of myself then, the image reflecting back at me was actually pretty good.

Not so much any more

Now I don't know who I frighten more, myself or the sales clerk

So, the question is ...

I used to really enjoy swimming

Not so much any more

I never thought about "working out" when I was young. I was much too busy having fun.

Now it's a whole new challenge...

...that I'm not very good at.

But somehow I'll survive ... emoticon

... and carry on ...

... and continue to wonder what happened!

I probably shouldn't spend so much time thinking while I'm exercising!

Thanks for the link to this!! I loved it! We all can relate as we get older and heavier! I know all to well. Loved the no top discount one and the aerobics class on! emoticon
I used to hate gears too on the bikes, but now I like them now that I use them. But, it is only a 7 speed, so it is easier. I don't like the hills either. Now since my fall, stopping is scary! I flashback at how I had fallen every time! Life seemed simpler when we were younger! Sigh!
But, we need to carry on best we can! emoticon emoticon

I love your blogs and I can tell you spend a LOT of thought and time on them--all to add a touch of humor to our journey! Which for the first time in 60 years, I am LOVING!!! Because of friends like you who keep me amused, and light-hearted! emoticon

Oh my goodness!! That was funny but I don't know if I should laugh or cry. I know you are struggling so I'm hoping this is just your comic relief and way of dealing with all that has gone wrong for you. I hope since you have begun not to stress about so many details that you are enjoying life again and that you will see some positive affects soon. emoticon

That was great! I especially relate to the bike one. I used to ride everywhere and daydream of cross country bike trips. Now, my butt hurts if I ride to the corner, 1/10th mile away! emoticon

I used the Grandma picture on the end, for one of my Facebook images. Seemed fitting and all my friends thought it was pretty funny.
Also check out my blog "My Christmas present" and 1BEACHWALKERS Spark page she has a whole blog on it. You want an exceptional bike, this one was made for us. What's also cool about it, is that it is a folding bike and can go in a car with ease. It's a Schwinn loop 7 folding bike. You can find it on Going to add you as a friend, enjoyed your cartoons and images!! FUN!! MJ

I LOVE it. Unfortunately there is some truth to aging and bathing suits. The don't seem to go well together. Sigh.
