Gunner's Blog

Audrey and I decided that, in light of yesterday’s events, Gunner deserved his own blog today. In case you didn’t know, we had to say goodbye to our lovable, goofy, photobombing Gunner yesterday. Thing is, he deserves his own blog because he wasn’t just a dog. He was a SparkDog. He kinda had his own little following on here, because of his extreme, ninja-like, photobombing abilities.

Gunner the Geek

Gunner appeared in our very first vlog:
www.sparkpeople.com/mypa
ge_public_journal_individu
al.asp?blog_id=4410985

And he was in just about every vlog we posted after that. It was rarely planned. That’s what made it so funny. We’d usually be hooping or doing something in the backyard, and he’d randomly walk through. There could be hoops going everywhere, teenagers all over the yard. Gunner would stroll right through, like it was no big deal, like he didn’t even notice what was going on. Doo dee doo, nothing to see here. Often, we didn’t even realize he was there until afterwards, when we were watching the footage. Ninja Dog. Or, I’d be working out in the living room and you’d see him lying on the floor, oblivious to all the lunges in the world. Unflappable.

Gunner, the Reluctant CameraDog

While Gunner tolerated the guys in our house, he was totally devoted to the girls. He was our dog, so it makes sense that he would share our SparkJourney and you would get to know him too. He was a fun, happy dog, and lived a long life. At 14-16 years old, we considered him to be the World’s Oldest Puppy. We’ll miss him. We already do.

Angelic Gunner. We took this last week, for a Creative Journal entry. How fitting it is now!

Memorial we made for him in our backyard.

Thanks for making our goofy, silly dog a part of SparkWorld!

I love the memorial u made for Gunner! I had a dog named Whitey when I was growing up. I got him when I was in kindergarten & we finally had to put him down after I was married the first time when I was 20! I am now 42 & still miss him so I definitely know what u mean!

We just lost our Lucy (also a black lab) at the age of 5 to a combination of Addison's disease and two torn ACL's in a week of each other. She was the fastest animal I have ever seen on four legs. Other dogs at the dog park would quit chasing their ball when Lucy was around because she ALWAYS got to it first. She LOVED doing Zombie 5k with me (though I think she increased my times a little by dragging me). She is missed, as Gunner is missed. I need a new sparking 4-footed buddy soon.

Aaaah, it wouldn't hurt to lose them so much if they weren't such a special part of our lives. I'm glad you have such fun & loving memories to ease the pain of losing him. I'm glad too, that he was so well loved. That's the kind of life every animal deserves. You folks gave that to him. Thank you.

It's always sad to sat goodbye to our pets. (typed one handed because I certainly can"t disturb the cat sleeping on my left arm!) They weave themselves into our lives seamlessly. And when they're gone that thread unravels just a bit. So sorry for Gunner's departure.

Sorry to hear you lost your fitness buddy, but it sure sounds like he had a fantastic life, and that counts for something. We lost our six year old Lab to cancer. Hardest goodbye I have made since my mom died. My husbands hiking pal. He was so lost without him we bought a new puppy two days later!

Grieve, remember the fun, be thankful you had the opportunity to give him a good life.

Sorry for your loss. I was in your spot 2 years ago with my 15 yr old lab and then a year before that with her sister who was 13.

Hugs
